....or Really Quiet even!
When my birding took off on Friday it was near high tide by the time I got to Conder Green to find the roosters on Conder Pool were c.150 Redshank and 2 Greenshank, also of note, a Little Grebe and 3 Little Egret.
The Spotted Redshank has failed to show yet at Conder Green and is by comparison to last year a month late. However, I note a report of one on the Lune Estuary at Glasson Dock last Tuesday 28 July....reasonable to suggest this is the so called Conder bird back in the area.
At Cockersands on Plover Scar at high tide, it was good to find the Sanderling here, just a single bird but good all the same, at best scarce here. An estimated 185 waders were on the scar, being c.130 Dunlin, 40 Golden Plover, 14 Ringed Plover. A walk along the headland produced a Wheatear and 10 Linnet, with 2 Whimbrel and 2 Swift south. I went down on to the shore on the return to find at least 250 Golden Plover camouflaged on the weed covered shingle again.
Three hours after high tide on the Lune Estuary at Glasson Dock, the count probably reached 1,000 Redshank/Dunlin which were feeding and in view on the south side from the bowling green, with numbers of each roughly split down the middle, the only other note I made was of 6 Black-tailed Godwit.
I called in at Conder Green on the way back to Lancaster to count 7 Common Sandpiper.
