In Reverse.

OK if your names 'Hawkeye' you'll have spotted the picture below has been here before, if you're  not a 'Hawkeye' then I may as well have kept my mouth shut.

Sandwich Terns. Pete Woodruff.

I thought to break any monotony I may be placing upon myself I'd do today's birding in reverse and make the start at Knott End which meant a little trespass into Fylde territory to record 5 Whimbrel and a lone adult Sandwich Tern off the west end of the esplanade. The ones in my 'award winning' photograph above were present on a day last year in August which makes today's singleton a little early.

Some 'lurking' around the Fluke hall area produced 3 Whitethroat, and c.300 Swallows hawking and resting on the fence posts in the field east of Fluke Hall Wood had me wondering if there was a connection with this and last Fridays Hobby, and if this is a regular gathering of Swallows here, if a stakeout would have turned this bird up here again....Mmmmm!

On the Lune Estuary at Glasson Dock, nothing remarkable happening here just yet but an Arctic Tern was fishing in the area opposite Waterloo Cottage before disappearing upstream, also a Little Egret in the same area. Conder Pool held another impressive count today of at least 460 Redshank, a stunning summer plumage Black-tailed Godwit, Spotted Redshank, 2 Greenshank, 2 Dunlin, and amongst it all the Little Ringed Plover sits tight, 19 Common Sandpiper were scattered all over the creeks and channels.

I thought the picture of the Lune Estuary from behind the Queen Vic at Glasson Dock was worth an airing underneath the header and shows a decent flock of distant Knot in the centre of the pic if you look really hard.
